This document describes the key elements for drilling fluids policy.

Mud Weight

The mud weight (ppg) shall be maintained as per the drilling programme and should provide a minimum overbalance of 75 psi for oil wells and 150 psi for gas wells.

Mud Properties

All mud properties shall be maintained as per the Drilling Programme to minimise formation damage and impairment across reservoirs.

HSE

Permits to work shall be used when mud/chemical mixing and mud tank cleaning.

Chemical data sheets must be available on the rig for all chemicals used on the rig.

Data sheets for all mud testing chemicals must be on the rig.

Diesel (Onshore)

When using diesel in drilling fluid, personnel protective equipment such as overalls, slicker suits, gloves and barrier creams must be available.

Hazardous Chemicals

When using corrosive, flammable chemicals in drilling fluid, personnel protective equipment such as overalls, slicker suits, gloves and barrier creams must be available.

Transportation of Mud Chemicals

When transporting mud chemicals the Transport Contractor must ensure that:

  • data sheets for all chemicals must accompany the chemicals being transported
  • no overloading condition exists
  • all loads are securely loaded
  • transportation and delivery only occurs during daylight.
